One of best books on Pentatonic Scales IMO is 'Pentatonic Scales for Jazz Improvisation' by Ramon Ricker
in which he applies them from the most inside to the the most outside sounding. I quote:

"This method, if studied diligently, can provide the student with materials to build harmonically "outside" improvisation while still retaining a logical basis"

plus there are great transcriptions of Chick Corea, Joe Farrell and Wayne Shorter using pentatonics.

Hey Shawn,

So you mean you have a metronome that defines the time signature for you?! <
(And not the good old "tick tick tick tick ..." one ?)

Hell yea! I love playing with time!

Just got my metronome out and put it in 3/4, then counted 5 over that, then broke those 5 into duplets, triplets, and quartuplets... Didn't change the time sig tho...

I'm gonna try your steps sometime soon.

Nice, Thank you for that information Jorge. I will eventually get to the same principle for minor chords. (next article maybe?)

Ron,

Thank you for all the nice words. I have to insist on something important though : the choice of you "guide line" material matters way less than the discipline and motivation that comes from inside of you. You could basically choose any kind of learning material (my website included) and still be very dedicated to learning/playing.

I personally favor practicing from many different sources at once (such as : 1-working on one tune for a chord melody, 2-transcribing a bebop solo, 3-learning a few progressions from a Ted Greene book and 4-using the metronome to blow very fast on a blues and rhythm changes).

Just my 10 cents
(-;
Thank you again, practice well.
